Privacy Policy

Your car records stay with you

Effective October 28, 2026 · Applies to Lugnut on iPhone, iPad and Mac

No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Lugnut doesn't ask you to sign up, shows no ads, and contains no analytics or tracking code.

The developer doesn't receive your data. There are no Lugnut servers. Your vehicles, service records, receipts and documents are stored on your own devices.

A few lookups go to public services. Recall checks, VIN details and the tire forecast send only what each lookup needs, as listed below.

What stays on your devices

Everything you add to Lugnut is kept on your iPhone, iPad or Mac: vehicles and their details, service and repair records, costs and taxes, fuel and charging entries, reminders, warranties, tire sets, diagnostic readings, photos, scanned receipts and documents, notes and settings.

Receipts, documents, owner's manual pages and tire sidewalls are read with Apple's text recognition on your device. The images and the text found in them aren't sent anywhere.

If your copy of Lugnut syncs through iCloud and you have iCloud turned on, your records are also kept in your private iCloud database, which belongs to your Apple Account. The developer can't see it. Apple's privacy policy covers iCloud.

What leaves your device, and why

Lugnut connects to the internet only for these features. Each service can see your device's internet address, as any website can. None of them receives your name, your records or your photos.

Recall checkCanada and the U.S.: a vehicle's make, model and year. France: only the make; the model and year are matched on your device. United Kingdom: nothing about your vehicle; the whole recall list is downloaded about once a week and searched on your device.Depending on the country you choose: Transport Canada (Canada); the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA (United States); RappelConso, the French government's product recall service, through data.gouv.fr (France); or the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, DVSA (United Kingdom). Other countries have no recall check.

Lugnut never uses your device's location. The forecast uses only the city you choose.

Purchases

Lugnut Pro is sold through Apple. Apple processes your payment, and the developer never sees your card or Apple Account details. The developer receives only Apple's anonymous sales reports.

Bluetooth and OBD adapters

When you use the diagnostic features, Lugnut talks directly to your OBD-II adapter over Bluetooth. Readings such as trouble codes, readiness, battery voltage and the odometer are saved on your device with that vehicle. Nothing is sent to the developer or the adapter maker.

Permissions Lugnut asks for

  • Camera: to scan receipts and documents and photograph your vehicle.
  • Photos: to attach pictures you choose. Lugnut sees only the photos you pick.
  • Bluetooth: to connect to your OBD adapter, including in the background when the car starts if you turn on automatic checks.
  • Notifications: for service reminders, trouble codes found by an automatic OBD check, the seasonal tire reminder and the reminder before a free trial ends. These notifications are created on your device.

You can change any of these in your device's Settings at any time.

Crash reports

If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may send the developer anonymous crash reports. They don't include your records. You can turn this off under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your data stays until you delete it. You can delete any record or vehicle in the app. Deleting the app removes the data stored on that device. Data in iCloud can be removed in your device's iCloud settings. Backups you export are files you control.

Children

Lugnut is meant for vehicle owners and isn't directed at children. It doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.

Your rights

Because the developer doesn't collect or hold your personal information, there's usually nothing to access, correct or delete on our side. If you've emailed the developer, you can ask for that correspondence to be deleted. Privacy laws such as Canada's PIPEDA, Quebec's Law 25, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Australia's Privacy Act and U.S. state privacy laws give you these rights; contact us to use them.

EU, UK and Swiss users: the only personal data the developer may handle is an email you choose to send. It's used only to answer you and fix problems you report (legitimate interest, or steps you ask for), kept only as long as that takes, and never shared or sold. Email is handled by Proton Mail in Switzerland. You can ask for a copy, a correction or deletion at any time, and you may complain to your local data protection authority.

The person responsible for the protection of personal information (the data controller) is the developer of Lugnut, Rayn Rosnuk, Ontario, Canada, reachable at the address below.
